To mention "咸" (xián) is to first recall a taste. It is the chief of all flavors, the very essence of the everyday world.
"咸" is also salt. And salt is a crystal of wisdom, a medium of preservation, and the soul of flavor. This perfectly mirrors the mission of art: it crystallizes thought, "preserves" history, and "seasons" a space with new meaning.
Further, we invite you to savor another, deeper taste hidden in the currents of time.
In its ancient origins, "咸" meant "all," "complete," "everyone"-the very meaning of our title's prefix, Omni-. It evokes the celebrated line from the classic Preface to the Orchid Pavilion, "the old and young are all gathered." Deeper still, in the I Ching, "咸" is the hexagram of "sensing"-the subtle connection between all things, the beginning of mutual influence in the universe.
Here, within this reborn historic house, all elements-history and the contemporary, architectural space and artwork, creator and viewer-are, in the spirit of that ancient line, all gathered. And here, they all "sense" one another, like salt dissolving in water, releasing new layers of vitality.
